IC-9700
144, 430 and 1200 MHz All Mode Transceiver
Including Satellite, DV, and DD Modes
The IC-9700 is a tri-band all mode transceiver, covering 2m, 70cm and 23cm.
In addition to traditional SSB, AM, FM, CW and RTTY functions, the transceiver also incorporates D-STAR (Digital Smart Technology for Amateur Transceiver) DV and DD functions.
A full Satellite Mode feature is built in!
There are three antenna slots, one each for 144, 430 and 1200 MHz.
Icom’s Digital Expertise
Direct RF sampling, for 144 MHz and 430 MHz, is used in the IC-9700.
For 1200 MHz, the down-conversion IF sampling method is adopted. In this system, the signals are digitized by the ADC and processed in the FPGA.
Signals are processed in the digital domain, eliminating distortion and other non-linearities seen in legacy hyperheterodyne receivers.
The result is that the purity of the signal is very high and clear sound can be produced.
Intuitive touch screen
Beautifully designed MENU screens let you navigate settings and functions with a simple touch.
The expanded menu provides quick access to Satellite and D-STAR functions.
In addition, an on-screen touch keyboard is available for entering alphanumeric memory channel names.
One-touch FT8 mode preset
Preset memory offers smooth FT8 operation. You can start the FT8 mode only by selecting [FT8] from the PRESET menu. Up to five preset memories can be stored.
Real-time spectrum
This is the first time an Icom VHF/UHF transceiver has a real-time spectrum range and waterfall display comparable to a high-end HF transceiver.
With the high-speed spectrum, you can immediately see the status of the operating zone. With a simple touch of the scope, you can tune the transceiver to the desired signal frequency.
You can also view your reception signal history using the waterfall screen. The scroll function automatically keeps the operating signal within the range.
Independent Receiver, Full Duplex Operation
The IC-9700 can simultaneously receive two different bands and two different modes. For example, you can receive on the 1200 MHz band in SSB mode while receiving on the 144 MHz band in FM mode.
This feature can be a major advantage when participating in contests or searching for weak signals. In addition, the IC-9700 is Full Duplex, which enables you to transmit on the main band while receiving on the sub band.
Audio range
By making good use of the Audio Scope function, various audio characteristics such as mic compressor level, filter width, notch filter width, and keying waveform in CW mode can be monitored.
Audio transmission or reception can be displayed in either the FFT field and the oscilloscope.
Power amplifier
This is a comparison between the back panel temperatures of two transceivers when transmitting continuously for 15 minutes. The IC-910* goes up to 65 °C while the IC-9700 only goes up to 45 °C. * Example of Japanese version when tested at 50W.
The power amplifier delivers stable power with high efficiency (144/430 MHz band: 100/75 watts).
The cooling system prevents the PA from overheating, even when operating for a long time.
This ensures reliable operation during competitions.
This amplifier is more energy efficient than previous models.
D-STAR functions
The IC-9700 features the D-STAR Repeater (DR) function that has been well received by D-STAR enthusiasts.
The DR function can be used on both the main and sub bands at the same time to listen to two separate DV signals.
In addition, using the DD function, you can browse the Internet through a repeater station.
Built-in DV Gateway functions
A static IP address can be set on the transceiver. If you set an IP address on your router, you can use terminal mode or access point mode without software applications.
Full menu for satellite mode
The IC-9700’s satellite mode makes satellite operation very easy. Even in Satellite mode, you can use the high quality spectrum.
Normal and Reverse Tracking Modes In addition to the Reverse Tracking mode, there is also a Normal Tracking mode. Both functions simultaneously increase or decrease the downlink and uplink frequencies in the same steps.
AFC Function Automatic Frequency Control follows the frequency change caused by the Doppler effect, thus maintaining a stable receiving condition.
Up to 99 Satellite Memory Channels The IC-9700 has 99 satellite memory channels that allow you to store uplink and downlink frequencies and operating mode. Simply selecting a satellite memory channel completes all your satellite settings.
Send, receive and display photos, the IC-9700 does it all
Photos stored on the smartphone or other device can be sent via the IC-9700. Using the image utility ST-4001A/I/W, you can select an image to be sent and then transfer it to the IC-9700 via LAN.
Image data is transmitted during voice communication or transmitted in DV fast data mode by also pressing a button on the screen. The IC-9700 can also display the captured image on its LED display.
